Bogota's Modern/Colonial History

Have you ever heard about Bogota's history?

The area of modern Bogota was first populated by people that migrated from mesoamerica. For example, the Muiscas came from the groups that settled in what is now mainly Cundinamarca and Boyaca. With the arrival of the Spanish, this became a major settlement, founded by Gonzalo Jimenez de Quesada, Then now this was the capital of Viceroyalty of New Granada. With the independence of Bogota, this city became the capital of the New Granade, that is now the Republic of Colombia.

Muiscas had no gold, so they traded with other tribes, and in that way, they got gold. They manufactured diverse pieces, the most outsatanding are "tunjos", small anthropomorthic figures that they offered to their Gods. Gold objects served for funerary and sacred rituals. They also made necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pectorals, nose rings, and pieces they used to adorne themselves. This is all true because you can find this artistic pieces on the museums, in this case, in the Gold Museum, where some of those pieces are preserved.

The first population inhabiting Bogota were the Muiscas, who where members of Chibcha language family. They occuped the highland and mind climate flanks between the Sumapaz mountains to the south west andCocuy's snowy peak to the northeast, most of the fertile areas were ancient Peistocene like beds and regions irrigated by High Bogota. In this area the population was organized in two different populations, that were commanded by a chief. The south west were dominated by the Zipa, with the center located in Bacatá, currently Bogota.

I hope you learned something about this beautiful city!!!!!, remember that the Muiscas were people that migrated from mesoamerica, they settled in Cundinamarca and Bogota.
